Rescue Bag proudly donates 20% of its profits (gross margin) each month to a featured rescue we like to call the Rescue of the Month!
Founded in 2013, HEART Dog Rescue is a volunteer driven, foster based rescue operating throughout the Kootenays of British Columbia. Their mission is to transport dogs in need from remote and Northern Canadian communities to loving foster homes where they can begin their journey toward a better life.
Many of the dogs HEART rescues come from communities where access to veterinary care is limited and where dogs often face neglect, harsh weather conditions, and a lack of basic care. Through a dedicated network of transport volunteers, foster families, and rescue partners, HEART provides these dogs with safety, medical care, rehabilitation, and the compassion they deserve.
As a foster based organization, HEART does not operate a traditional shelter. Instead, each dog is welcomed into a home environment where their personality, needs, and strengths can be fully understood. This allows the team to thoughtfully match dogs with adopters and set them up for long term success in their forever homes.
Beyond rescue and adoption, HEART works alongside frontline animal welfare organizations and supports efforts to improve animal welfare in remote communities. Their long term vision includes creating a sanctuary in the Kootenays where dogs can heal, recover, and prepare for adoption while continuing to raise awareness about the ongoing animal welfare crisis affecting many Northern communities.
Run entirely by passionate volunteers, HEART Dog Rescue relies on the support of fosters, adopters, donors, and community members to continue saving lives. Every foster home, adoption application, donation, and shared story helps give another dog the chance to experience safety, love, and a future filled with hope.

Donation Transparency
Transparency is core to how we operate. Each year, a qualified accountant independently reviews our financials and verifies that 20% of our gross margin has been donated to animal rescues. That signed validation is published annually, so our community can see exactly how we follow through on our commitment.
